Haverhill
People Manager
Salary: £38-£40,000 pa pro rata
Location: Haverhill with some travel to our Colchester office
About the role
Haverhill based, at our manufacturing facility and supporting managers at Colchester as required. Actual days/hours are flexible but need to be on site – school hours, full days, part time, what would you prefer?
If you are a skilled HR practitioner with experience of case management, good working knowledge of UK employment law, you understand best practice and have a pragmatic approach to getting things done, then we really want to hear from you.
This is not just any HR role; it provides a unique opportunity to get involved with the day-to-day work of a busy factory environment (around 90 people on site, 120 in total) at the same time as progressing the development of the HR function (we call ourselves the People Team). You’ll come to us with experience of managing cases and advising managers and will play an essential role in linking our factory at Haverhill to our office support centre in Colchester.
In bringing solid HR expertise gained in the UK to a business that needs sound and pragmatic advice, you will have the support of an experienced colleague at Haverhill and Head of HR) at our HQ at Colchester. We’ve got systems and processes in place and now want to move towards our strategic goals through engagement, management development and culture change.
This role is multi faceted and you won’t be bored – one day you’ll be covering the work of our People Coordinator and the next you’ll be dealing with a complex grievance, or preparing to deliver training for our supervisors. As half of the People team at the factory you will provide a pragmatic service to local managers on everyday HR issues and bring a proactive approach to the planning of recruitment campaigns, performance and absence management, coaching and supporting managers in holding key meetings with staff, liaising with Operational Managers to balance the interests of the factory with the need for best practice and fairness throughout our management of staff.
Based at Haverhill with some travel to Colchester, the actual hours are negotiable – we can be flexible, so can fit in with school hours or give full days off in the week. Just let us know your preference.
Benefits
- Contributory Company pension
- Life assurance
- 25 days holiday (for full time)
- Free on-site parking at both sites
- Referral programme
- Sick pay (more than SSP)
- Employee Assistance programme that gives access to GP appointments 24/7, wellness support and store discounts (and much more)
What you need to have
Ideally you will have experience working in HR in manufacturing, but more important is that you have a keen interest in promoting the HR function and want to make a difference. Already qualified at CIPD Level 5 or equivalent (or Level 3 with bags of experience), you’ll also need to be credible, demonstrate empathy and understanding whilst also having the assertiveness to ensure that managers can take responsibility for their own team and its performance – we want managers to manage and our People Team to create the environment in which they can do that. The ability to build relationships quickly and a desire to ‘get on with things’ are both essential. You’ll be joining a small team with a great work ethic – we think you’ll like us!
