What is the Titon FireSafe® Air Brick?

The A1 Fire-rated Titon FireSafe® Air Brick is a non-combustible metal ventilation grille designed for use in external walls of residential buildings. It provides high airflow for ventilation systems while maintaining fire resistance in line with UK regulations.

Why is an A1 fire-rated air brick important?

An A1 fire rating means the air brick is completely non-combustible and will not contribute to the spread of fire. This is critical for compliance with UK Building Regulations Approved Document B, particularly in flats and multi-occupancy dwellings.

What is the FireSafe® Air Brick used for?

The Titon FireSafe® Air Brick is designed for new and refurbished houses and apartments.

It is suitable for architects, mechanical engineers, contractors and local authorities specifying fire-compliant ventilation solutions.

How does the A1 Fire-rated FireSafe® Air Brick improve fire safety?

The unit is engineered to:

    • Provide low resistance to airflow for efficient ventilation
    • Deliver high resistance to fire spread
    • Support compliance with Approved Document B (2019, Volume 1 – Dwellings)

This ensures that ventilation openings do not compromise fire compartmentation.

What makes it different from standard air bricks?

Compared to traditional plastic air bricks (such as the Q Plus High Flow Brick), the FireSafe® version offers:

    • A1 non-combustible construction (metal)
    • Improved fire performance
    • Compatibility with modern building safety requirements

Introducing the New
HRV Cool Plus™

Overheating in homes can also pose various risks, including heat stress, dehydration, an increase of health conditions. It is estimated over 4,500 people died in the UK in 2022 due to high temperatures, the largest on record in recent years.

Effective ventilation systems, such as mechanical fans or natural ventilation are essential in alleviating overheating by promoting air circulation and cooling indoor space. They also remove indoor air pollutants, excess moisture and unpleasant odours.

The new Titon HRV Cool Plus™ offers a solution designed to deliver cooling, filtered, and tempered air for user comfort in warmer weather conditions via a compact efficient MVHR and cooling module.

High flow terminal designed for powered ventilation systems offering low resistance to airflow and high resistance to fire

CIBSE CPD now available - Introduction of Metal Air Bricks for Building Applications into External Walls

The CPD was developed in part to the response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s recommendations in her post Grenfell Tower review of building safety, for external walls of buildings to meet a Class A2 specification. The CPD challenges current practices and legislation in place, specifically looking at Residential/Domestic applications within Approved Document B.

The presentation focuses on:

  • Analysing high flow terminals for powered ventilation systems and how they affect the fire safety of a system depending on the application and product
  • Challenging current ethos and mentalities of current designs and specifications
  • Reviewing ‘good practice’ and looking at current system designs.
